Castle Rock Fire and Rescue sends team to help fight California wildfires

california_news_graphic

Residents know Castle Rock is a tight-knit community. And, sometimes those community boundaries extend beyond Colorado. That’s why Castle Rock Fire and Rescue has sent a team of firefighters to help support the crews fighting the wildfire in California.

Three members of the fire department left Wednesday for Chino, California. The team will serve a 14-day assignment and help those fighting the wildfire near Los Angeles. The department also sent one of its Type 6 4x4 brush trucks – which is specifically designed for wildfires.

Typically, Castle Rock Fire and Rescue members volunteer for these deployment assignments. The main goal is to help other departments with natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods and wildfires. However, these deployments also serve as a training opportunity. The firefighters gain a significant amount of experience while working on these natural disasters. This experience is then brought back and shared with the entire department. That makes Castle Rock Fire and Rescue even more prepared should something similar happen closer to home.

Once this team returns home, additional members may be asked to go support the wildfire efforts. Learn more about everything happening with the Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department at CRgov.com/fire.
